Albert Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.

I believe that far too many small business owners, and sales professionals, are by this definition INSANE.

Are you?

I always love this time of year.  It is the beginning of a new year, a new start, a fresh beginning.  2012 is now behind us and we are all excited about what 2013 is going to bring us.

However, here is the truth.  2013 is not going to BRING us anything.  This year will be no different for us than last year was in business.  That is unless, YOU, do something about it.

I have enjoyed the consistent posts on Facebook and Twitter where people are all excited for the new year.  They are posting motivational quotes and pictures.  Unfortunately these are the same people who will be posting these same posts come January 2014 hoping that that will be "Their Year".

While the new year does bring with it some motivation for change, and for better results, it also requires consistency and action in order to make those results a reality.  Just posting to your Facebook page that this year is going to be better than the last is not going to happen unless YOU make it happen.

Too many of us think that if we write down our goals we will achieve them.  That is simply not true.  In fact unless we come up with a clear action plan, and answer the question of, "What am I going to do differently this year than last?"  Then all we have accomplished is putting a WISH not a goal down on a worthless piece of paper.

The big question is, what are you going to do differently this year to get different results?  What actions are you going to commit to in order to MAKE that goal of yours a reality? 

Most of the people you see posting all those motivational quotes and pictures online will forget they even did that come February.  The ones who are going to really hit their goals this year have already begun the process of WORKING towards them.  In order to have more success, or any success for that matter, you need to be willing to commit with every piece of you in order to make it happen.  You need to make sacrifices to make it happen.  I don't mean you need to sacrifice time with your family, or money, etc. but you do need to sacrifice your energy and devotion to that goal.  You need to be willing to do the things you don't want to do in order to see the results you desire.

This is true no matter what your goal is.  Want to be in better shape?  Get off your lazy ass and work out.  Make the sacrifice of not watching TV for an hour and spend that time WORKING on getting in better shape.  Make the sacrifice of not eating the junk we all love and eat healthier. 

In the not so distant future you will start hearing the excuses everyone has for why they are not where they want to be.  No matter what area in your life you want to improve in it is up to YOU to do it.  It is up to you to make 2013 better than 2012, and doing the same things you were last year will not get you to new places this year.

If you have a goal of increasing the amount of referrals coming into your business this year, it is the same thing.  I have highlighted the word WORKING in this post because it is amazing how many times people like to forget that piece.  Most professionals never even notice the word is right in net-WORKING.  If you want to get more referrals you need to start asking yourself what are you going to do differently?  Is it a matter of looking at different networking groups?  Is it a matter of learning how to be a more effective networker?  Do you need to give more?  Do you need to just start net-WORKING at all?

This is why I have created Success Through Referrals®.  It is to give those who are serious about achieving success in their business through referrals an opportunity to learn how to do it effectively, efficiently, and affordably.  We also have our forums for our members to learn from one another, and to continue to push and motivate each other towards our goals.   This site will never be one to promise you a quick fix to your cold calling problems.  There is no secret shortcut to success in any aspect of life, and networking and referrals are no different.  This site, these blog posts, our videos, our forums, etc are designed to help you focus on, learn, and implement the activities that will get you the success you desire, but it is up to YOU to do it.  If you are looking for that secret to success without the hard WORK you need to read another blog.
