Procrastination is the enemy for many of us. It will kill any chance we have for success.
Procrastination not only makes us ineffective, but it can also make us feel overwhelmed and frustrated. If we live a life of procrastination we will always live a life of stress and underachievement.
The challenge with networking is that in order to gain more referrals in our business many of us need to spend more time networking. But with everything else we need to be doing as a small business owner, or sales professional, who has the time?
Albert Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.
I believe that far too many small business owners, and sales professionals, are by this definition INSANE.
I always love this time of year. It is the beginning of a new year, a new start, a fresh beginning. 2012 is now behind us and we are all excited about what 2013 is going to bring us.
Jim Rohn famously said that we are the average of the five people we spend the most time with. I couldn’t agree more with this statement. When it comes to our way of thinking, our self-esteem, our motivation, our overall happiness, and even our decisions, we are greatly influenced by those we CHOOSE to surround ourselves with.
While the five people we spend the most time with have the greatest influence I believe that everyone we let into our lives, both personal and business, will have some sort of impact on us even if it is for just a brief moment. Because of this I think it is vital to our success to be guarded about the people we choose to surround ourselves with.
This is my favorite time of the year!
There is so much excitement with the holidays, the end to another successful year, and the beginning of a new one.
One of the topics most discuss this time of year is New Year resolutions. I think everyone enjoys the idea of a new resolution, and the opportunity that the beginning of a new year brings us. Generally people seem excited to discuss their goals for the New Year. In fact, I think it is now that they have the most excitement about these goals, only to have the feeling slowly decrease every day after the 1st.
Beware of those who are out there trying to teach professionals that getting referrals is “easy” and takes no real effort.
The truth is, networking and word-of-mouth marketing is simple, yet far from easy. If it were easy you would already have all of the referrals you could ever desire.
I am seeing more and more “experts” emerge on every topic, including networking and referrals. If you look closely you’ll notice that most of these professionals are selling a program where if all you do is sign up you will instantly get all of the referrals you want! Oh if only it was that simple.
It seems that almost daily I am hearing about “New” networking groups popping up everywhere. Now it may be because of my position that I am hearing about them, but it becomes frustrating as I believe it simply illustrates how far too many professionals lack respect for networking as well as the understanding and true concept of what it means and how it works.
Now you may ask yourself “respect for networking? What the hell is Tim talking about?”
With the recent passing of one of our Country’s great leaders and motivational speakers, Zig Ziglar, I thought it was appropriate to share one of my favorite quotes of his:
“You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.” – Zig Ziglar
In my previous post I talked about the importance of having a Giving Mindset not only during the holidays but all year. I discussed how I wish more people had a focus on giving first in business, and networking, because if they did they would always have the referrals they desire.
It is the season of GIVING! As we go out over the next month, in search of the perfect gifts for family and friends, it is also a good time to take a minute to think about what the act of GIVING actually means to us.
While we all appreciate receiving thoughtful gifts, for most of us the act of GIVING a gift is much more enjoyable. It is when we see the reaction and feelings that we are able to create for someone by the simple gesture of GIVING them something that fills us with a sense of joy. It can have more of a positive impact on the person GIVING the gift than the one receiving.
With the Holidays just days away it is not time to sit back and relax. Believe it or not this is the time of year you need to RAMP UP your networking efforts!
That’s right; it is right now, this Holiday week that you want to be trying to network with as many people as possible. This is the time you should be scheduling “networking” lunch meetings with clients, referral partners, etc.
Why is this the most important time of the year to be investing more time in networking?
Have you set your goals for 2013 yet?
If not you may be behind schedule!
A common mistake a lot of business owners, and sales professionals, make is they wait until the New Year begins to set their goals. They get too focused on trying to “end the year strong” that they fail to truly plan for the following year.
