Jim Rohn famously said that we are the average of the five people we spend the most time with.   I couldn’t agree more with this statement.  When it comes to our way of thinking, our self-esteem, our motivation, our overall happiness, and even our decisions, we are greatly influenced by those we CHOOSE to surround ourselves with.

While the five people we spend the most time with have the greatest influence I believe that everyone we let into our lives, both personal and business, will have some sort of impact on us even if it is for just a brief moment.   Because of this I think it is vital to our success to be guarded about the people we choose to surround ourselves with.

Beware of those who are out there trying to teach professionals that getting referrals is “easy” and takes no real effort.

The truth is, networking and word-of-mouth marketing is simple, yet far from easy.  If it were easy you would already have all of the referrals you could ever desire.

I am seeing more and more “experts” emerge on every topic, including networking and referrals.  If you look closely you’ll notice that most of these professionals are selling a program where if all you do is sign up you will instantly get all of the referrals you want!  Oh if only it was that simple.

It is the season of GIVING! As we go out over the next month, in search of the perfect gifts for family and friends, it is also a good time to take a minute to think about what the act of GIVING actually means to us.

While we all appreciate receiving thoughtful gifts, for most of us the act of GIVING a gift is much more enjoyable.  It is when we see the reaction and feelings that we are able to create for someone by the simple gesture of GIVING them something that fills us with a sense of joy.  It can have more of a positive impact on the person GIVING the gift than the one receiving.
